Fox has greenlit a pilot for a one-hour drama series Black Lightning from Greg Berlanti centered on the DC Comics’ vigilante, TVLine has learned.
The project is being penned by Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband Salim Akil and both serve as EPs alongside Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
Here’s the official logline:
“Jefferson Pierce made his choice. He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend — Black Lightning.”
Black Lightning’s previous small-screen appearances have primarily come in animated form, including on Cartoon Network’s short-lived Young Justice.
