In anticipation of the fall premiere, Fox has released a 22-minute special previewing its new comedy “Mulaney,” starring John Mulaney and Martin Short.
“Mulaney: An Opening Act” spotlights Mulaney’s standup while introducing the show’s premise, loosely based on Mulaney’s life. He stars as a comedian living and working in New York City, with roommates Motif (Seaton Smith) and Jane (Nasim Pedrad), and neighbors Andre and Oscar played by Zack Pearlman and Elliot Gould. Short stars as legendary game show host Lou Cannon, who Mulaney is hired to write for.
The special will be available for Fox affiliates to air, as well as run online, on-demand and via other platforms.
The special is not alone in the arena of fall previews, as Fox has also released a four-part series for “Gotham,” and offered the pilot episode of “Red Band Society” after a charity social media campaign. ABC has also been sampling its own new comedy “Selfie,” while NBC has released “A to Z,” and will be airing a half-hour preview show of its fall lineup.
The previews hope to drive increased audience interest in sticking with the series once they make their official premieres.
