prison-breakAfter much murmuring, Fox has confirmed that a new “Prison Break” limited series is officially a go. Dana Walden and Gary Newman, co-chairs and CEOs at Fox Television Group, told journalists the news on Thursday at Fox’s Television Critics Association panel. They also confirmed that original series stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, as well as other original series actors, are also on board for the 10-episode project, which Walden called “a bit of a sequel.”

She added that show creator Paul Scheuring “is writing it now” and it “picks up a few years after” the first series finale ended and “addresses questions that were set up during the series.”

This news might be confusing to devout fans of the show who watched the straight-to-video film finale and therefore have questions about the casting news.

“[Paul has] a very detailed and incredible story for while these characters become relevant again,” said Newman, while Walden added that there is a “logical and believable explanation in the world of ‘Prison Break.’”

The project is targeting to begin production after the first of the year and would be considered for summer or the 2016-17 season. Purcell and Miller are, of course, currently busy in the DC universe and will appear in CW’s fall series “Legends of Tomorrow.”
