Flipboard reported a rare desirable problem on Wednesday after its servers collapsed following the Flipboard for iPhone launch. The curated news app’s creator cited “high demand” as bringing down its service. It had no estimated time for a fix beyond its returning “as soon as possible.”
While unfortunate, it signals a large spike in demand even versus the iPad app, which was popular enough to become Apple’s iPad app of the year for 2010. Although the iPad user and app base is growing, the nature of the iPhone still gives it a much larger group of potential users.
Speaking in the wake of the launch, the company has continued to hint at a lack of near-term plans to support Android or other platforms beyond Apple’s.
