Mario Kart 8 is already loaded with content—tons of characters, karts, and customizations to choose from, and lots of top-notch maps.
But this first pack of downloadable content adds even more. Three new characters—Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, and Link from the Zelda games, for the first time ever in a Mario Kart game, which is very cool. It is a shame both Peach and Mario are returning since they’re already in the game in other forms. There’s also four new vehicles— the Tanooki Kart, the Master Cycle, the B Dasher, and the Blue Falcon—as well as new vehicle customizations.
But the real reason to get the DLC? Fully eight new tracks, in the form of two new Grand Prix Cups, the Egg Cup and the Triforce Cup. The new races included are:
Egg Cup
Yoshi Circuit (GCN)
Excitebike Arena
Dragon Driftway
Mute City
Triforce Cup
Wario’s Gold Mine (Wii)
Rainbow Road (SNES)
Ice Ice Outpost
Hyrule Circuit
Some of the included races are brand new, others are remasters of classic tracks. A second DLC pack will be available in 2015.
