Not only did Firewatch skip past the Xbox One for its official launch, but fans of Microsoft’s console had little reason to expect that the game would ever make it to their system of choice. Firewatch developer Campo Santo previously indicated that the small developer had “no plans” to bring the game to other platforms due to the limited resources it could devote to such a project.
“We’ll see how the game does at launch and if there’s a desire for it on other platforms then we’ll explore that,” Campo Santo co-founder Sean Vanaman told Red Bull.
It seems that gamers’ desire has finally reached a critical mass, as Campo Santo recently announced that Firewatch is going to soon debut on the Xbox One. And the wait—for Xbox gamers—might have been worth it, as the game will come with a few exclusive extras.
“You’ve been inquiring and those inquiries were not falling on deaf ears. We’re thrilled to finally be sharing Firewatch with our friends in the Xbox community,” reads a recent blog post from Campo Santo.
“Along with the main game, we’re also shipping the Firewatch Audio Tour (a free update for all customers!) which we’ll talk a little bit more about tomorrow. The short version: one part scavenger hunt, one part museum tour, one part game dev workshop, mixed with a dash of inside Campo Santo goofs. We think you will like it very much.”
Xbox One gamers will also get to play a new free-roam mode in Firewatch before anybody else. Presumably, the mode will allow players to abandon the game’s narrative and simply explore the Shoshone National Forest setting in the day and night. As Campo Santos notes, the mode will come with a few extra hidden secrets for players to find.
The Xbox One version of Firewatch will go live on the Xbox Games Store on September 21.
