Dragon Quest X

Shortly after Square Enix confirmed that Dragon Quest XI would be headed for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS, and possibly Nintendo NX, it revealed that its MMORPG Dragon Quest X would also be getting two more versions, one for the PlayStation 4 and one “under consideration” for the mythical Nintendo NX.

Both are significant announcements in their own way for a three year old video game. The PlayStation 4 version marks the first time that the game will be available for a Sony platform, after being dominated by Nintendo, PC, and smartphones all this time. This also means that it will be the first version fans can import without the fear of being region-locked out.

Be careful. You might need a Japanese PSN account to access it.

The Nintendo NX version is even more important thanks to it shining a bit of a light on the Nintendo NX. Dragon Quest X sadly shines very little light on the nature of the console since it itself is an HD game, a mobile game, and a Nintendo 3DS game. One thing is certain though, if Square Enix follows through on these ports, both it and Dragon Quest XI will propel Nintendo’s console out of the gates when it launches in Japan.

Who knows? Maybe Square Enix hasn’t given up on a localization for the game either.
