Dell Streak 7 May Have Honeycomb Update Early

Dell Streak 7Dell’s promise of an Android 3.2 update to the Streak 7 may have come true early after multiple anecdotes of the update. A handful of owners, so far of the UK version with unlocked 3G, have reported getting the new OS. While one has said the upgrade looks “great,” another pointed out that it was “glitchy” and might have been rushed.

Wi-Fi users and Americans haven’t reported getting the update yet. Dell may be using a frequent strategy for updates of upgrading a small batch of users to gauge how well it works in real-world conditions before upgrading wider groups.

Dell hasn’t commented on whether the upgrades have started.

The Streak 7 may be one of the lower-end tablets to get Android 3.2 and could even skirt the limits of Google’s official upgrade. Although fast enough through its dual-core Tegra 2 chip, it has an 800×480 screen where Google officially wants 1024×600. Dell’s status as a company along with the seven-inch screen size may have helped it get by where others would have to stop with Android 2.3 or earlier.
