Dell Buys Wyse to Expand Business Cloud Offerings

Dell today revealed it has purchased thin client and desktop virtualization technology specialist Wyse Technologies. The acquisition will help Dell expand its cloud offering for enterprises. That market is growing rapidly across the globe, Dell believed in making the deal.

Wyse is a key player in the market, as it has shipped over 20 million units of its virtualization goods and has 200 million daily users of its products. It owns nearly 180 patents, some of which are pending, which cover the company’s solutions, software, and intellectual property like patents.

Traditional PC makers are trying to make money on cloud services as profits on hardware fall. This includes Dell and competitor HP, which last year was rumored to be considering selling off is Personal Systems Group that makes PCs.

The financial details of the Wyse purchase weren’t revealed. It’s expected to close in Dell’s second fiscal quarter.
