electricomics_h_2015The latest work of Watchmen and From Hell co-creator Alan Moore has been launched with little fanfare Wednesday — and it won’t be found in comic book stores. Instead, Big Nemo is one of a number of strips available on Moore’s new digital comics platform, Electricomics.

Originally announced in May 2014, Electricomics is an open source platform that acts as both publisher of, and toolkit for, digital comics. In addition to Moore’s Big Nemo — a reinvention of Winsor McCay’s classic Little Nemo in Slumberland strip, with Colleen Doran illustrating — the platform also features original work by the likes of Garth Ennis, Nicola Scott and Moore’s daughter and fellow comic book writer Leah Moore.

Initially launching as an iOS app, the creator toolkit will soon be made available via the official Electricomics site, allowing creators to package their own material for release through the system.

“The professional comics are a jumping off point, we want you to join in, and push forward what is possible for yourself,” Leah Moore wrote in a blog post announcing the app’s release in the Apple Store. “Maintain control of your own content. We don’t host it, it’s yours. You store it where you like, make what you want out of it. Comics load in the Electricomics App instantly from their URL.”
