Working with German developer Graebert GmbH, Corel is now offering a new, cross-platform CAD program for technical designers, professional architects, engineers, construction firms and general manufacturing businesses called CorelCAD. The software features native DWG file support, 2D and 3D workflows, dockable toolbars, DXF and DWF compatibility, various export formats, a highly-customizable interface and custome workspace profiles for enhanced efficiency.

The program features traditional 2D drafting tools as well as 3D tools for advanced solid modeling and 3D manipulation of 2D designs, such as extruding, revolving, sweeping 2D entities along a path or lofting between entities to form a 3D solid object. Users can also slice and intersect solids, and edit edges, faces and bodies of 3D solids.

Although CorelCAD uses DWG as its native file format, it can also save drawings back to R12 DWG or DXF format, read in all versions of DXF and also supports DWF. Files can be exported to PDF, ACIS 3D and other formats, and the program’s output is fully compatible with AutoCAD.

CorelCAD is now available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese for both Mac and Windows. Versions that support Czech, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean and Japanese will be available this summer. It sells for $699 and requires an Intel Mac running OS X 10.5.8 or higher. Owners of CorelDraw Graphics Suite X4, CorelDraw Premium Suite or CorelDesigner X4 are eligible for a $499 upgrade price. A trial version is available that will become fully-functional for 30 days (including printing and saving) if the user registers; after 30 days (or without registration) the trial will continue to function but disable saving or printing.
