Plasq has brought out the sequel to its popular photo-comic creation software, Comic Life 2 — adding templates; better balloon control and text flow for more precision positioning; more fonts and panel layouts; more shapes and the ability to make more free-form shapes; an integrated Facebook uploading and an enhanced user interface.

The new templates include preset layouts, panels, title and caption spaces all united with complementary styles to give projects a more professional look — or users can create and save their own templates. Facebook support means finished comics can instantly be uploaded to an album to share with family and friends.

A new gradient designer has been included to allow complex linear or radial gradients, and a new format bar allows quick access to style options including font and color pickers. Shapes now include “smart” shapes, free-form drawing tools and the ability to turn any closed shape into a panel, making non-square panels much easier to use. Word and thought balloons now have better “tail” control for better fitting around content, and flow control means longer passages can be broken across panels and balloons with just a few clicks. Page numbering has also been improved.

Comic Life 2 requires OS X 10.4.11 or 10.5.6 or later. The program is available in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish localizations. It costs $30 for an individual license, or $45 for a family license (up to five computers in a single household). For a limited time, Comic Life and Comic Life Deluxe owners can upgrade for $10.
