Area 52, the four-issue comic book series from 2001 has just been acquired for a feature film adaptation by Summit Entertainment per Deadline. While the story still deals with extra-terrestrials, the titular base is located in Antarctica, which is the exact opposite of the desert location of Area 51. Titular acts as a government storage dump for otherworldly discoveries, manned by a ragtag group of misfits who have been exiled to the middle of nowhere to staff it.
The story takes off when an alien killing machine is accidentally hatched in this repository, the group must band together and use the stored mythological weapons and artifacts to save themselves and the world.
