Björk has finally detailed her upcoming album project, labeled Biophilia, that will include a series of iPad apps related to each song. The musician has performed songs from the album for the first time at the Manchester International Festival, where she used an iPad as an instrument in the live presentation. The public iPad apps will arrive ahead of the album, but the project centers around the apps as a part of the experience rather than a complementary side note.
Users will be able to obtain 10 different apps, one for each of the songs on the album. As previously mentioned, “Virus” will allow users to battle mutating rhythms. “Mutual Core” involves arranging geological layers to play chords, while “Hollow” enables users to build drum machines from DNA bases.
Björk suggests the iPad served as a turning point in the the project’s initial stages, when she was trying to figure out a way to integrate an interactive experience. “I felt like technology had finally caught up with us,” she told Rolling Stone.
The Biophilia iPad apps are expected to arrive sometime next month.
