Best Buy and Mophie have announced recalls for certain iPhone and iPod battery packs. In the case of the iPhone, Best Buy has issued a recall notice for its Rocketfish branded iPhone 3G and 3GS battery case. Mophie has also issued a recall notice for its battery cases for the iPod touch 4G. In both instances, the packs have experienced overheating problems, which could result in a fire.

In a post on the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, it was noted that about 31,000 Rocketfish battery cases for the iPhone 3G and 3GS are affected in the US and about 1,000 in Canada. The agency reports that it and the Best Buy have received 14 reports of overheating in the US, with three reports of minor burns to consumers and four reports of minor property damage.

A separate post on the US CPSC site notes that Mophie has received 110 reports of its iPod touch battery case becoming warm to touch. The company also received 44 reports of the product deforming and nine reports of minor burns to consumers.

Affected customers have been directed to call either Best Buy or Mophie. Best Buy is offering a $70 gift card in the US or a $105 gift card in Canada to those affected. Mophie is offering a product replacement.
