Adobe has launched a public beta of Audition for Mac, which was originally announced in June of this year. The release is based on Adobe’s Windows version of the title, and handles professional-level audio production. It supports multi-core processing and 5.1-channel surround sound; various tools control aspects like panning, noise reduction and “healing” audio.
Users can edit either in a conventional waveform mode or a spectral editing view. Effects new to the Mac software include a dehummer, a de-esser, surround reverb and a volume leveler, which matches the volume of different speakers. The software should integrate with Premiere Pro, and support OMF, XML and various other filetypes from third-party software.
The Mac edition does lacks some features of Audition 3 for Windows, including MIDI support and CD burning.
Users must have an Intel Mac running Mac OS X 10.5.7 or later, along with 1GB of RAM, 2GB of and a Core Audio-capable soundcard. Access to the beta software requires only an Adobe ID, but the program will expire automatically at the end of a trial period.
