ASUS EP101TC Tablet Switches to Android

Originally announced at this year’s Computex PC trade show, the ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC tablet will now reportedly feature Android instead of a customised version of Microsoft’s Windows Embedded Compact 7. According to Netbook News, Taiwanese hardware manufacturer ASUS has decided to drop Windows CE in favour of Google’s open source mobile operating system -“ exact reasons for the change were not given.

The 12.2mm thick Eee Pad tablet will feature a 10-inch touch screen and weigh just 675 g. Exact hardware specifications have yet to be confirmed, but the device is expected to be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip and have up to 64 GB of storage.

The ASUS Eee EP101TC tablet will reportedly be on display at next year’s Consumer Electronics Show   in Las Vegas and should launch in the first quarter of 2011
