Apple has been granted a further patent on Femtocell technology which is typically used in network base stations that use low-power cellular connections and are designed to be operated in homes and smaller businesses. This new patent, number 9,191,839, has been issued regarding methods of configuring Femtocells and it follows an August patent regarding access to wireless signals using the technology.
Together the two patents deal with a potential system for creating or boosting a wireless network. It would typically give few people a more consistent reception across a small residential or office area. Femtocells are not an Apple invention, they are already available and on sale from US carriers but Apple’s patents involve the specific use and deployment of them.

Apple does not generally comment on patents and news of these came through the standard filings of the US Patent & Trademark Office. According to Apple World Today, the patents are to do with the use and managing of multiple Femtocells with overlapping coverage areas.
