Following from its recent swathe of smartphone releases, Alcatel has revealed the One Touch Evo 8HD Android 4.2.2 aluminum-clad tablet. Helping to set the device apart from the crowded Android tablet space, the Evo 8HD uses a modular design that allows users who buy a Wi-Fi variant to later update it with either 3G or 4G cellular modules. Like its new One Touch Hero, the Evo 8HD also sports a new active Magic flip cover that integrates LED lights to display alerts when the cover is closed over the tablet.

The Evo 8HD centers on an 8-inch 1024×768 720p IPS display and is powered by a Rockchip dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.6GHz paired with 1GB of RAM. On board storage is limited to 4GB, although this can be expanded by up to an additional 64GB with a microSD card. The rear camera is a 3-megapixel type, while the front is rated at 2-megapixels. The built-in battery has a 4160mAh capacity while standard connectivity includes support for Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0.

Alcatel has yet to reveal the pricing and availability of the device.
