Since 2004, video game players have logged 20 billion matches for the first-person shooter franchise Halo.

Studio Bungie has revealed some jaw-dropping multiplayer stats in the form of an incredible infographic.

Of those 20 billion, about 11.5 billion were played on Halo 3 and expansion ODST. Bungie notes the figures count online cooperative matches in ODST. About 5.4 billion were logged in Halo 2, while another 3.9 billion have been played in their most recent launch, Halo Reach.

Those 20 billion games add up to an astonishing 123 billion minutes spent playing online multiplayer matches, Bungie finds. To put that in perspective, that’s the equivalent of more than 235,000 years.

“In the collective time you’ve spent playing Halo, you could have traveled across the expanse of the Milky Way at the speed of light … and back,” writes Bungie in its infographic.

Other Notable Stats

  • Players have killed each other in Halo more than 136 billion times. The most popular weapon of choice? The Battle Rifle, which was responsible for 15.4 billion weapon kills.
  • More than 79 billion medals were earned during multiplayer matches. The most commonly earned award was Beat Down, which players collected more than 20 billion times for killing an opponent with a melee attack.
  • Players logged more than 350 million games of Firefight, the cooperative mode where one team works together to wipe out hordes of alien enemies.

The next chapter for the franchise, Halo 4, is scheduled to launch later this year. It’s the first Halo title not being produced by Bungie, who hands over the development reins to 343 Industries.
