Nero has announced that it has received BD-Live (BD-Profile 2.0) certification from the Blu-ray Disc Association. As a result of meeting these rigorous standards, Nero users will not only have HD playback, but also be able to unlock a truly interactive BD-Live movie experience while playing their Blu-ray discs.
BD-Live will bring a whole host of Internet-connected activities, such as instant messaging, scheduled chats with a movie’s director, online multi-player gaming, social networking, downloadable movie trailers and sub-titles, and more to those who view their Blu-ray movies using Nero’s software. In addition to the BD-Live functionality and its already robust video editing capabilities, Nero also supports BD-Profile 1.1 (BonusView), a feature that introduces Picture-in-Picture (PiP) functionality to enable movie-watchers to view an inset window like a video commentary in which a director or actor discuss a scene rolling in the background.
“In our effort to deliver a complete HD video experience to creative enthusiasts and home hobbyists, we felt it was critical to ensure our software was BD-Live certified,” said Martin Stein, Senior Vice President, Global Products at Nero. “As a result of this certification, we will be able to deliver a true BD-Live experience to Nero users. We can now seamlessly bridge between the convergence of HD video playback and Internet-enabled features, thus enhancing the overall entertainment experience for our consumers.”
Nero’s portfolio of multimedia software will add support for BD-Live beginning this fall.
