Former Blacklister to Top Line New NBC Medical Drama Pilot

Only months after his character was — spoiler alert — killed off of NBC’s The Blacklist, actor Ryan Eggold has been tapped to star in the network’s untitled hospital drama pilot.

Inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir Twelve Patients: Life & Death at Bellevue Hospital, the pilot is a character-driven medical drama that revolves around the new director of a hospital, whose maverick approach disrupts the status quo while always prioritizing patient care. Located in Manhattan, it’s the only hospital in the world that has the capability to treat Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers Island and the president of the United States all under one roof.

Eggold will topline the drama as Max Hollander, who is driven to the point of exhausting himself and everyone around him, including his wife who recently separated from him. An internist, he has just been hired as medical director at the hospital, which he’s going to restore to its former glory or get kicked out trying.

Written by David Schulner (Emerald City, Do No Harm) and exec produced and directed by Peter Horton, Manheimer will produce the Universal Television drama. Janet Montgomery and Tyler Labine co-star.

Eggold played Tom Keen on NBC’s The Blacklist for four and a half seasons — plus its short-lived spinoff, Blacklist: Redemption. He was killed off during November’s midseason finale of the Sony TV series.
