Nearly every iPhone 4S owner is happy with their device, ChangeWave found in a fresh study on Thursday. About 96 percent of owners were satisfied on some level, with 77 percent of them “very” satisfied. Although a post-launch glow was expected, the rankings were higher than in the month after the iPhone 4 last year, when 93 percent were happy and a lower 72 percent were very satisfied.

As might be expected, Siri was the most-liked feature, with almost half, 49 percent, picking it as the favorite. Exactly one third liked the upgraded camera. Second place, however, may have helped explain Apple’s consistently high scores: ease of use still ranked at 39 percent, hinting that a significant portion thought Android or BlackBerry were unnecessarily complex.

The dislikes focused on the lower than expected battery life, which may be related to software rather than hardware. Although significant, only 30 percent disliked the absence of 4G, showing that it was appreciated but not vital to the experience. Despite the outside image of Android users that screen size was vital, only 11 percent were disappointed that Apple hadn’t moved beyond 3.5 inches so far.

Along with the regular satisfaction, researchers also noticed that Apple’s improved, dual-system antenna was tangibly reducing dropped calls. Reports of dropped calls had been cut by more than half to 2.5 percent, owners said. Some of that may have come from having a carrier other than AT&T, however: while AT&T dropped calls were down to 4.1 percent from 5.2, only 1.3 percent of calls were being dropped on Verizon. Sprint wasn’t part of the testing.

The reaction to the iPhone 4S helped explain continued sellouts even into Black Friday. With customers seeing Apple as improving on an established formula, it was ensuring that those who were receptive to the iPhone at all were considerably more likely to buy.
