3TB Internal Drive Upgrade from OWC for 2010 27-inch iMac

Other World Computing has added a 3TB drive option to its line of 2010 27-inch iMac upgrades, allowing users to have up to 300 percent more internal storage than is offered on stock current-model iMacs. The drive is a Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000, a 7200rpm 3.5-inch standard SATA drive with 64MB onboard cache. The upgrade joins other OWC turnkey iMac upgrades, which include adding an eSATA port, which normally sells for $169 by itself, to the bottom of the machine, replacing the optical drive with a Blu-ray optical drive, or replacing the internal hard drive with up to three SSD drives.

The drive by itself with no upgrading is currently available for $260 or $469 in the upgrade package. Other upgrades can be performed at the same time to reduce overall costs, and the company promises a 48-hour turnaround (shipping times not included). The company has a configuration page where users can price out various upgrade options. This upgrade program is only available for the mid-2010 27-inch iMacs; the company offers other upgrade paths for other models of Macs.
