3M to Enter the E-Reader Race

While showing off its 3M Cloud Library at the annual American Library Association conference, 3M showed off its new e-book reader. While the hardware (pictured) was said to be in concept stage and may change before it reaches production, it shows the device is at least on track for a release. It’s a design seen before in the form of Wizpac’s txtr and saved 3M the significant expense of designing and building its own.

While no specs were revealed for the 3M reader, the Wizpac design sported a 6-inch E-ink screen along with Wi-Fi, the option of 3G, Bluetooth, a g-sensor and a vibration feature. Instead of a d-pad, a touchpad was in place as well.

How or if these change on the production 3M model remains to be seen, though it likely will as the current hardware is nearly two years old
