Upcoming Xbox Exclusive Quantum Break Now Delayed Until 2016

quantumbreakAlthough it was one of the very first games to be announced during the Xbox One’s unveiling almost two years ago Remedy Entertainment’s Quantum Break will not now be released until 2016.

It never had a specific release date before, but was implied to be out this autumn. However, the game has rarely been seen in public and we weren’t entirely convinced by its showing at Gamescom last August.

Like Remedy’s previous games Max Payne (and Max Payne 2, but not 3) and Alan Wake, Quantum Break is a third person shooter, but with the special gimmick that many of its characters can freeze and manipulate time – which helps in both combat and some extensive platforming sections.

When the game was first announced it was also to have a tie-in TV series, with the same interlinked story being told across both. Although ever since Microsoft started downscaling its TV production plans that aspect has barely been mentioned.

‘With so many Xbox One games launching this year, moving Quantum Break to 2016 extends our incredible portfolio into next year with a monster new IP,’ said Microsoft’s Shannon Loftis.

Which seems an odd thing to say as currently Halo 5 is the only Xbox One exclusive with a confirmed release date, and there hasn’t been a single major retail exclusive so far this year.

‘We’re really proud to be part of the incredible Xbox One line-up,’ added Remedy’s Sam Lake.

‘We thank our fans for their patience, and want them to know that the team is taking advantage of this opportunity to polish and fine tune the game to create the kind of standout entertainment experience they’ve come to expect from us.’
