Twitter Experiments With Native Polling Feature

Twitter for Windows PhoneSan Francisco-based social media company Twitter has created a feature that allows users to create polls and track their results.
“We’re experimenting with a new way to poll users on Twitter,” Aly Pavela, a spokeswoman for Twitter, told Bloomberg.

Twitter has rolled out a series of new user tools this year, including a platform for collecting political donations and an app for streaming live video. It also has introduced the ability to buy products and services via a one-step button.

Twitter has been scrutinized by investors for months as its stock has plunged. CEO Dick Costolo stepped down in mid-June and co-founder Jack Dorsey returned to the company as interim CEO.

Twitter won’t receive any cut from donations made, but it will allow politicians to pay for promoted tweets. Square’s new feature will also allow users to shop via the platform. That move is being heralded by analysts as a way for the company to buoy its shaky share price with new moneymaking features.

“By facilitating transactions, Twitter is opening itself up to revenue streams that are potentially more lucrative than traditional advertising models,” said Kevin Grieve, partner and head of the North American cards and payments practice at Strategy&, told CNBC when the function was added last month.
