In July 30 Rock creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock announced they are coming back to NBC with a half-hour comedy series starring Ted Danson and set to run as an exclusive on the upcoming NBCUniversal streaming platform.

Now, THR reports that the still-untitled series began its life as a full-on 30 Rock spinoff with Alec Baldwin reprising his role as Jack Donaghy who would run for mayor of New York City.

After negotiations, Baldwin pulled out of the project. Fey and Carlock however still felt the premise was viable and so went to Ted Danson to fill the role.

He came onboard and the project which was retooled to remove all 30 Rock references and shift the action to Los Angeles where Danson is based.

In the new series, Danson’s character wins and he has to figure out what he stands for, gain the respect of his staff, and connect with his teenage daughter – all while controlling the coyote population. No premiere date has yet been set.
