Thermaltake has released two new micro PC cases, the Urban S1 and the Urban SD1. Both are designed for builders wanting a compact yet high performance system using Micro ATX and Mini ITX motherboards.
“Like all Thermaltake Urban cases, Urban S1 and Urban SD1 are ideal if space is limited, yet there is still plenty of room inside for great expansion and advanced cooling PC system,” reads the company’s announcement.
Urban S1
The Urban S1 is the taller of the two, featuring a metal brushed front door panel and a perforated side panel to hide what’s inside. A blue LED indicator lines the front top, looking like a blue Cylon eye that doesn’t move. Two USB 3.0 ports are mounted on the front-bottom panel along with an HD microphone and headset jacks.
This case provides one 80 mm rear fan with removable filters and a pre-mounted hole for the optional 120 mm front fan. This chassis also provides two 5.25″ bays and six 3.5″ drive bays, one of which is “hidden” at the bottom and supports both 2.5″ and 3.5″ hard drives or SSDs.
There’s also enough room for a standard CPU cooler (5.8 inches) and four PCI extension slots. However, this chassis will only have enough room for a 10.2-inch card, which should be enough to accommodate most cards under the $200 price range.
The Urban S1 measures 9.4 x 11 x 17.9 inches.
Urban SD1
The Urban SD1 appears to be the size of a small portable fridge. This case features a metal brushed front door panel and perforated side panel to hide the rig’s innards. The SD1 also provides a retractable motherboard tray for easily upgrading the motherboard, which lays flat on the bottom. To keep things cool, there’s a 90 mm fan on the front and two 60 mm fans on the back.
“Exclusive 2 + 4 modular drive bays design allows user to assemble and expand easily and fast when all the drive bays have been removed,” reads the company’s announcement. “With anti-vibration 3.5″ HDD and 2.5″ tool-free drive bay minimized the hassles of installing HDD devices for convenience and ease of accessibility.”
This chassis supports up to 140 mm radiator liquid cooling system (and even includes a cooling extension bracket) and high-end graphics cards measuring up to 13.7 inches. There’s also one large CPU cutout so that the CPU cooler can fit, and two retained holes to support advanced liquid cooling systems and cable management.
The Urban SD1 measures 9.4 x 11 x 17.9 inches.
