The CW has granted early renewals to 11 of its shows, announced The CW president Mark Pedowitz.
“The CW has become home to some of the most critically-acclaimed shows on broadcast television, with a wide array of fantastic scripted series across the week, ranging from musical comedy, to superhero action, to gritty sci-fi dramas,” said Pedowitz in a statement. “As we continue to further our strategy of more year-round original programming, picking up these 11 series for the 2016-2017 season puts us in a great position of having proven, high-quality shows to launch in the fall as well as midseason and summer of 2017.”
The shows on tap for the 2016-2017 season: Jane the Virgin (Season 3); Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Season 2); The Flash (Season 3); iZombie (Season 3); Arrow (Season 5); Supernatural (Season 12); DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 2); The 100 (Season 4); The Vampire Diaries (Season 8); The Originals (Season 4); and Reign (Season 4).
The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Arrow are The CW’s top three shows in total viewers and Adults 18-49 (in the Live+7 stats); the Friday combo of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals has improved ratings +39% in total viewers and +60% in adults 18-49 versus the same range a year ago. And The CW’s Monday combo has been a winner, with Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez (2015) and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom (2016) taking home back to back Golden Globes for Best Actress in a Comedy, TV or Musical. Sitting at Season 12, Supernatural is now the network’s longest running show.
