Super Smash Bros

Nintendo today is releasing a free update which will enable amiibo support within Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

Here’s the news from an official PR email:

A free update will also be released on 10th February for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS that will enable amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. Collection to be used with the new systems.

While Nintendo was slow in pushing this feature to us 3DS Fan-Boys and Fan-Girls, it’s understandable – this week sees the western launch of the New Nintendo 3DS, the only variant of the handheld which is capable of interacting with the NFC tech contained within the amiibo figures. A peripheral for the standard 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS which allows those systems to communicate with amiibo toys is expected to launch at a later date.
