President and CEO David Nevins has confirmed to TV Guide that their TV series adaptation of the Halo video game series is still in active development.

Plus, Spielberg is still attached to the project and Showtime’s programming president Gary Levine says:

“[Halo] is absolutely still in development, still moving forward and I’m encouraged by what we’ve seen so far… it’s still live action, and it will definitely satisfy the fans of Halo and I think also satisfy the drama audiences of Showtime.”

Nearly ten years ago the property was in development as a feature film to be produced by Peter Jackson and directed by Neill Blomkamp. That project fell apart and talk of a TV series began around the time of the launch of the Xbox One back in 2013.

The Halo franchise has sold over 70 million games in its lifetime and brought in over $4 billion, though it remains in something of a state of limbo at the moment with no talk of a sixth entry in the series.
