The creators of Disney’s animated series “Phineas and Ferb” are bringing a new comedy to Disney XD. Sources confirm “Mikey Murphy’s Law” has been greenlit for a 2017 premiere. The upcoming series from Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh introduces Mikey, the fictional great-great-great-great grandson of the Murphy’s Law namesake.
Povenmire and Marsh will serve as exec producers on the new series. Joining the duo are “Phineas and Ferb” colleagues, producer and director Robert F. Hughes, story editor Scott Peterson and writers Joshua Pruett, Dani Vetere and Martin Olson.
“Dan and Swampy are two of the most respected and proven show creators in the animation series business,” said Marc Buhaj, SVP of programming and general manager, Disney XD, who made the announcement of the series order Thursday with Eric Coleman, SVP of Disney Television Animation. “They are incredibly gifted storytellers who have a track record of creating smart, original and relatable characters that are universally appealing to both kids and families. It’s a coup for Disney XD to continue working with this talented duo on their latest creation, ‘Mikey Murphy’s Law.’ We’re looking forward to another great creative partnership.”
The kids’ cabler also announced some big news for “Phineas and Ferb”: a brand new episode, plus another special on Disney XD.
The episode, titled “Last Day of Summer” (pictured), premieres June 12. Slated for fall, the hourlong standalone special, titled “The O.W.C.A. Files,” focuses on the organization’s best secret agent, Agent P (aka Perry the Platypus) and his fellow animal agents.
Leading up to “Last Day of Summer,” the Emmy-winning series — which wrapped with 126 episodes, five one-hour specials and a Disney Channel Original Movie — is also getting a 73-hour marathon, starting June 9, which will include every single “Phineas and Ferb” installment that ever aired. After that, the series will continue to air daily on Disney XD.
