Nokia Debuts Free Music Streaming Service for Windows Phone in the USA

Starting today owners of Nokia’s Lumia-branded and Windows Phone-powered handsets in the US can access the phonemaker’s free Nokia Music service. The service was available to European Lumia owners since last year, and includes more than 150 unique playlists, each created by a devoted “musicologist.” There are playlists featuring artists that include Rihanna and Lady Gaga, as well as musical genres that range from underground Detroit house to compositions by the New York Philharmonic.

Users can also make their own soundtracks using the Nokia Music Create function that makes a playlist based on the artists they select. The service isn’t supported by ads and doesn’t require users to register or subscribe.

There is also an offline mode for listening during a commute, for example, where a data signal isn’t available. Finally, a Gig Finder will locate live concerts, gigs, and shows taking place near them.

The app can now be downloaded and supports the Lumia 900 and 710 handsets.
