Netflix Spending More Than The Old Guard Film Studios In 2018

A recent report in The Economist indicates that streaming service Netflix  is expected to spend between $12-13 billion on content this year, easily outspending rivals like other major studios.

It’s also a much higher number than the report a few months ago which says the service was planning to spend around $8 billion on content in 2018, and double that of its content spend in 2016.

It makes sense though as the service is reportedly poised to release 82 films in 2018, almost four times the output of Warner Bros. Pictures and eight times that of Disney Pictures.

Additionally, Netflix will reportedly produce or exclusively license 700 TV series with over 100 of those being scripted dramas or comedies along with dozens of documentaries, kids shows, stand-up comedy specials and unscripted reality and talk shows.

The service is also currently making programs in twenty countries, including Brazil, Germany, India and South Korea.
