Actress Linda Hamilton is returning to the Terminator franchise, after 25 years. The new instalment being made by Skydance and Paramount.

James Cameron made the announcement at a private event regarding the franchise per the THR, saying:

“As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return. There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn’t an example of that for women.”

Tim Miller (Deadpool) is directing the sequel which will be the first film since 1991’s “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” to have Cameron directly involved – in this case as producer and with a story he created. As previously reported, Arnold Schwarzenegger is also returning to the franchise.

Cameron and Miller created a writers room to map out a planned trilogy that can stand as single movies or form an overarching story with the likes of David Goyer, Charles Eglee and Josh Friedman involved.

No date for the production has yet been set.
