Justice League Detroit Is Getting an Omnibus Next Year

The Justice League debuted in 1960 and has been in near-continuous publication since.  But there is one version that has been hated in print but is the core of what people see on TV today. That is what many call…Justice League Detroit!

Justice League Detroit was the mocking name given to the mid 80’s era of the Justice League Of America.

The Detroit League is actually the second iteration of the more well-known Justice League of America. The first team disbanded following the destruction of the Justice League Satellite during the Martian invasion of Earth (Pre-Crisis). Gerry Conway (who wrote the Justice League of America series from 1978 through 1986) and Chuck Patton (artist) had Aquaman, a founding member of the original League, possess the authority to disband the team, and did so, only to reconstitute it with a fresh new roster.

Gerry Conway relocated the League from a satellite headquarters to inner-city Detroit. That era of the series featured DC characters Aquaman, the Elongated Man, the Martian Manhunter and Zatanna, in addition to his own creation, Steel. Some fans, including myself, thought Steel, the angst-ridden cyborg, looked too much like Captain America and was just a bone to get teens to buy the book.

Now fast forward to the DC CW-verse of superhero TV shows we have today, those show have seemingly reformed the team, with members: Gypsy, Vibe, Vixen, Steel and Martian Manhunter going across the network’s different shows. This has fans showing more interest in that era’s books and timeline.

Now DC is reclaiming era and the phrase, naming their  up coming omnibus collection for that era of the series Justice League: The Detroit Era Omnibus.

It will be 800 pages and comes out on 16th January 16th, 2018.
