Star Wars Celebration 2016

Even before Alden Ehrenreich was cast as the half-witted, scruffy-looking Nerfherder, the rumor mill was chugging along that the “new” Han Solo would make his big screen debut in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Now though, director Gareth Edwards has shot first and put them to bed.

“I’m not sure if I’m allowed to do this, but I think I should,” he tells Extra TV. “I can put to bed, Han Solo is not in the movie.”

Rogue One tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. Felicity Jones leads the cast as Jyn Erso alongside Mads Mikklesen who plays her father, Galen Erso. Diego Luna (Milk) stars as Captain Cassian Andor with Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Blade II) as the blind spiritual warrior Chirrut Imwe, Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly, Devils on the Doorstep) as his heavily armored best friend Baze Malbus,, Alan Tudyk (Firefly) as the droid K-2SO, Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Four Lions) as the Rebel pilot Bodhi Rook, plus Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) as Saw Gerrera, a character first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Ben Mendelsohn (BloodlineMississippi Grind) as the film’s main antagonist, Director Orson Krennic.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set for release on December 16, 2016.

Alden Ehrenreich will star in the Han Solo anthology film which will be directed by 21 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It will be executive produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra with production set to begin in January of  2017 and debuting in theaters on May 25, 2018.
