Google has announced a preview of the Google Drive API, a tool for developers that will allow them to add Google Drive functionality to their own Android applications.
One of the core features of the API is that it allows Google Drive to behave like local storage. Apps will treat local and cloud storage as one in the same, even when the device is offline. Data can be stored locally when connectivity is poor and then synced to Google Drive once connectivity returns. Google calls this transparent sync. The API works with Google Play Services, and should function on the vast majority of today’s Android handsets (Android 2.3 Gingerbread and up).
Developers can download the API from Google’s Android developer portal.
