MK Business News lending credence to an earlier report suggesting that the Galaxy Note 2 will sport a larger 5.5-inch display. The publication also suggests that it will appear as soon as August with a formal unveiling to take place at the Berlin IFA 2012 consumer electronics show. Despite the larger display, the ‘phablet’ is expected to arrive in a form factor comparable to the existing 5 million plus selling Galaxy Note with 5.3-inch display.

When it arrives, it is expected that the Galaxy Note 2 will run Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) from the outset. Further, it is likely to be powered by a quad-core Exynos processor, giving the device a significant performance boost over the original model. It is also speculated that the rear camera will get a bump from 8-megapixels to 12- or 13-megapixels. Also unclear is whether the display will offer an increased resolution or whether it be Pentile or non-Pentile ‘Plus’ type.

The original Galaxy Note followed in the footsteps of the ill-fated Dell Streak 5. Although the Dell tried to cater for a professional audience, Samsung managed to boost the appeal of the cross-over form factor by collaborating with Wacom to develop the S-pen stylus. It also included handwriting recognition and tailored apps to take advantage of its stylus capabilities.
