The StrainFX’s infectious sci-fi series “The Strain” will return to its Sunday time slot for its second season, premiering at 10 p.m. on July 12.

The time continues to be an outside-the-box choice for the network, which usually prefers to air high-profile dramas during the week nights. But it paid off last season, when “The Strain” was the most-watched new scripted series of all basic and pay cable networks in adults 18-49 (2.4 million).

The second season of the thriller is set when New York City is rapidly falling to an evil epidemic. It follows Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) as they concentrate on creating a biological weapon to wipe out the creatures, while Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) searches for an ancient book he hopes will reveal the culprits’ entire history … and possibly a way to kill them.

“The Strain” is produced by FX Productions and comes from showrunner/executive producer/writer Carlton Cuse along with co-creators/executive producers/writers Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.
