John StamosGrandfathered (previously titled Grandpa) is one of Fox’s fall comedy line-up. Created by Daniel Chun, the show was picked up to series by Fox back in May. The series is scheduled to premiere on September 29, 2015.

Grandfathered details the life of Jimmy(John Stamos) a recently divorced bachelor and restaurant owner who is trying to cope with middle age and it’s many issues. One day a fellow walks into Jimmy’s restaurant an Jimmy discovers that he has a son, from a relationship many years before. But that’s not the only surprise: he also has a granddaughter, too, thanks to a one-night stand the son had with a woman.

Despite the sudden revelation, he takes the news in stride (mostly) and the story unfolds as Jimmy learn to deal with a family that now includes not only his son and granddaughter, but their respective mothers as well. Jimmy learns that being a grandpa and a father might be the answer to some the the troubling questions that seemed to come with his impending transition to mid-life.

Grandfathered is light-hearted, bringing together Jimmy’s ad-hoc family quickly and with minimal difficulty. His son’s mother is skeptical but gives him the benefit of the doubt as he tries to ramp up to the father/grandfather role.

Stamos is handsome and likable, with a deft comedic touch that is enhanced by the show’s solid writing. Josh Peck blends well as his son Gerald, who’s an awkward semi-adult, looking to his father for advice that will up his “cool” quotient.

We thought that the show will have some appeal for fans of family the comedies like Modern Family and Raising Hope. The pacing is solid, and though the show isn’t breaking any particularly new ground story-wise the characters are believable and made us look forward to seeing how their on screen relationships develop.
