EA Sports announced this week that Rory McIlroy PGA Tour has been pushed back to July, set to release the same week as the Open Championship at St. Andrews.

EA Sports unveiled the below video alongside the announcement. The video goes into more depth about the different control options we’ll have at our disposal. Arcade, Classic, and Tour controls should suit just about any player, according to EA Sports.

The Arcade style is the standard PGA Tour control style and will be the most accessible for fans of the series. The Classic style has players tapping a button to start their swing, and then tapping it again to lock in power and accuracy. Finally, Tour style sounds like Arcade style controls with the training wheels off. Length of the backswing, speed of the follow-through, and straightness of the analog stick all influence shots in this control scheme, and all assists are turned off.

Courses have different “personalities” as well to reflect the way the ground and ball interact. Dirt and grass aren’t always dirt and grass, so rounds in different locations should better reflect the peculiarities of each course.

This edition of PGA Tour has been especially intriguing from the outset. The decision to use the engine designed for games like Dragon Age: Inquisition instead of EA Sports games opened up the possibility to not only do a much better job simulating real courses but also for EA to import maps from their other games and make fantasy courses of those. The new face on the cover signals a change for the franchise as well, with McIlroy replacing Tiger Woods. The variety of control options gives players a bunch of different ways to approach the game and have fun with it.

EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour releases July 14 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
