Charlize TheronDavid Fincher and Charlize Theron’s long-percolating drama series “Mind Hunter” has found a home at Netflix according to Deadline.

The series, an adaptation of John Douglas and Mark Olshaker’s book “Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit,” had originally been set up at Fox 21 and would have been the studio’s first project with HBO. It recounts the profiling techniques Douglas developed during his experiences as a top FBI investigator of serial killers and rapists.

Fox 21 is no longer involved with the project. Scott Buck, who had originally been tapped to adapt the novel, is now the showrunner of the upcoming Netflix drama “Iron Fist.” Playwright/screenwriter Joe Penhall is now penning the project.

Netflix declined to comment.

The move to Netflix makes sense for Fincher, whose “House of Cards” put the digital channel on the map. The director of “Se7en” and “Zodiac” recently had two projects in the works at HBO: “Utopia” with “Gone Girl” scribe Gillian Flynn and the music video comedy “Videosynchrazy.” Both fell victim to production issues.
