Heroes of the Storm

The latest MOBA on the scene, Heroes of the Storm, is slowly inching its way through closed-beta. But unlike some companies, Blizzard is making the ultimate commitment to their new franchise: “We’re just going to keep adding heroes forever until we get sick of it.”

A bold claim, but that’s the least of the awesome announcements from Blizzard. Heroes of the Storm already has a pretty big roster of characters, so large that Blizzard needed to introduce the Founder’s Pack to help players acquire more of them. And despite the awful monetization policy within the game, Blizzard remains committed to Heroes of the Storm and its future development. “There’s no secret number [of characters], and there’s no number that determines when we launch.

Heroes of the Storm also distinguishes itself by its map variety. Not only are maps themed differently, with varying layouts, but unlike other MOBAs such as League of Legends and DOTA 2, each map features a different style of gameplay. Some encourage you to frequently rush into the jungle to defeat beasties to earn points that accumulate to summoning a friendly beast, while other maps use a secondary layered map to allow players to hastily descend into a mine shaft to gain collectibles for their team, while also forcing team-fights in very close and unfamiliar quarters. Turns out that these are not the only maps we should expect out of Heroes of the Storm.

“We’re gonna keep adding more, definitely the rate of growth on maps is not gonna slow or stop until we say so. Until somebody tells us, ‘Dude, too many maps’ or whatever. We’re adding them as frequently as we can, and we’re going to keep adding them as frequently as we can, even after launch.

This is the pace that we’re hoping to continue developing at going forward. We’re gonna add game modes, we’re gonna add new heroes, we’re gonna add new battlegrounds. Our goal for this game is to communicate with our audience to the best of our ability that you haven’t seen anything yet. We don’t want this game to become stale. We do not want this game to become repetitive. We want this game to constantly evolve.”
