Corning manufacturers Gorilla Glass which Apples uses on iPhones, as does many other smartphones and tablets makers

The monies will support Corning’s research and development efforts and manufacturing facilities. Apple  main goal with the money is Corning’s facility in Harrodsburg, Ky., which has supplied Apple with glass since the first iPhone in 2007. The Harrodsburg plant employs about 400 people.

Apple has committed to spending $1 billion through its Advanced Manufacturing Fund to foster innovation among American manufacturers. Corning is the first recipient of these funds.
