AMD Officially Launches Radeon R7 SSD Line

AMD today announced its previously rumored technology partnership with Toshiba-owned OCZ Storage Solutions for AMD Radeon-branded Solid State Drives (SSDs). Launching the range is the AMD Radeon R7 Series SSDs in 120GB, 240GB or 480GB capacities.

The drives are the first high performance SSDs to utilize the Toshiba Group’s latest A19 MLC NAND flash process and the Barefoot 3 M00 controller. The flash media is multi-level cell A19 media. R7 Series disks offer write endurance of 30GB/day over four years, as well as read/write speeds of up to 550MB/s and 530MB/s, respectively with the 120GB model writing at 470MB/s.

Read IOPS vary between 85,000 for the 120GB drive and 100,000 for the 480GB drive. Write random IOPS are 90,000 regardless of model. Steady-state random write IOPS fall between 12,000 and 23,000 for the 120GB and 480GB models respectively.

The R7 120GB SSD retails for $100. Pricing for the other two sizes are unknown.
