PocketMac has launched a new program for the iPhone called BerryMover ($10) that syncs contacts, text messages, e-mail, notes, calendar data and task from a BlackBerry to iTunes, where it can be copied to the iPhone and imported into the proper apps. The program uses the normal BlackBerry “.ipd” backup files for transfer.
Each copy of the app comes with a video tutorial (watch below) of how to transfer the information from the BlackBerry to the iPhone. Basically, the users sync the BerryMover app to iTunes on their Mac or PC from the iPhone, then use iTunes to copy the .ipd files onto the iPhone. From there, the BerryMover app on the iPhone will convert the files to correspond to the proper apps (such as Contacts, Calendar, Notes etc.).
Users can choose which information they want to import at the iTunes stage, so that not everything a user had on their BlackBerry has to be copied over if that’s not desired. PocketMac cites surveys showing that over 66 percent of Verizon-based BB owners plan to switch to an iPhone at some point, which could be extrapolated to mean additional demand for the new iPhone 4S from both Verizon and now Sprint users.
The company has worked with BlackBerry backup files and various platforms for seven years already, meaning that although BerryMover is a new product, it has years of experience with BlackBerry data behind it. BerryMover also allows users to work with data from an unlimited number of backup files, so users could combine data from multiple phones into a comprehensive set of data to bring to the iPhone. It’s available from the iTunes App Store, and requires iOS 4.2 or later. The app is compatible with iPad and iPod Touch as well.
