Toyota Finally Support Smartphone Integration – New Avalon Supports CarPlay and Alexa

After years as the lone holdout among major automakers selling the US in adopting smartphone integration – Toyota,  without much fanfare, introduced the feature on the redesigned Avalon sedan at the NAIAS in Detroit  last week.

The move was only a bullet point was listed among the new features of the fifth-generation Avalon in a press release

CarPlay and Android Auto mirror a smartphone’s applications onto a vehicle’s infotainment display, allowing drivers to access features such as maps, music and messaging rather than relying on the built-in interface.

Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant will be standard on the Avalon and future Toyota vehicles. Android Auto will be next.
