Fox has ordered an additional five episodes of Star. The pick-up extends the drama series’ second season to 18 episodes — the full length of a typical season for its Wednesday-night companion show, Empire. The first season of “star” ran 12 episodes.

Two episodes into its second season, Star is averaging a 1.6 Nielsen live-plus-same day rating in the 18-49 demo, up from a 1.3 in season one.

Tom Donaghy, who created Star with Daniels, also serves as an executive producer on the show, as do Pamela Oas Williams and Karin Gist. the series stars Jude Demorest, Brittany O’Grady, Ryan Destiny, Amiyah Scott, Quincy Brown, Benjamin Bratt, and Queen Latifah. The show tells the story of three young female singers attempting to make their way to music-industry success.
